what’s in the box?

What’s in the box?  It is something you can play with and I found it in the classroom.  And it fits into a box.

“Is it soft?” asks Bianca?

Great question (even though the answer is ‘No’) because it means that it must be hard.

“Is it a domino?” asks Ella.

No.

“Is it Lego?” asks Tim.

No.

“Is it a (Unifix) cube?”  asks Tanisha.

No.

“Is it made of plastic?” asks Yousouf.

Great question (to which the answer is ‘Yes’) because it means that is can’t be anything that is made from wood or metal or glass.

“Is it a ball?  Or a bead?” asks Melchior (getting in two-questions-for-the-price-of-one).

No and no.

“Is it the plastic fruit?” asks Tanisha.

No.

“Is it a motorcycle?” asks Aalian.

Not sure we have any of those in the class…..

“Is it from the class?” asks Melchior.  Just to double-check, I guess.

“I know,” says Bianca.  “It’s a bear.”

And she does.  Because it is.  Look.

Again.  Again.  Again.

OK.  Again.

What’s in the box?  It is something you can play with and I found it in the classroom. And it fits into a box.

Mélina.  “Is it hard?”

Great question (to which the answer is ‘Yes’) because it means it can’t be something soft.

Melchior.  “Is it a plastic car?”

No.

Tim.  “Is it a pencil?”

No.

Bianca.  “Is it made of wood?”

Great question (to which the answer is ‘Yes’) because it means it can’t be anything that is made from plastic or metal or glass.

Mélina.  “Is it a doll from the doll’s house?”

No.

“Is it something we use for construction?”

Yes!  Good question Alexis.

Tim.  “It’s a brick!”

And it is.  Look.

Again. Again. Again.

Later maybe.  But now you know how to play, why not teach someone else to play with you?
